According to Motor1, sales of affordable cars in the US, including the Nissan Versa (otherwise known as the Nissan Almera), Kia K4 (previously Kia Forte), and the Mitsubishi Mirage, among others, saw a significant surge in 2024.

Nissan’s affordable car segment benefited the most in 2024, with US sales of the Sentra and Versa reaching 152,659 and 42,589 units, respectively, equivalent to growth rates of 39.8% and 71.7%. The company also reported sales of 77,356 Nissan Kicks, a 15.8% increase.

Despite the Mitsubishi Mirage being phased out, the Japanese automaker still managed to sell 29,766 units to American customers, an astonishing 125.5% growth.

Kia K4’s US sales for the past year stood at 139,778 vehicles, marking a 12.8% increase compared to 2023. However, in the SUV segment, Kia didn’t fare as well, with Motor1 indicating a slight decline in sales for the Soul, Seltos, and Niro in the American market.

Chevrolet also witnessed a boost in sales, selling 200,689 Trax units in 2024, an 83.9% jump from the previous year. On the other hand, their SUV, the Trailblazer, experienced a 6% dip in sales, totaling 104,398 units.

The Buick Envista, with a starting price of 24,795 USD, recorded sales of 51,316 units in the US during 2024, an impressive 285.8% growth. This compact crossover only entered the American auto market last summer.

Honda reported sales of 151,468 HR-V and 402,791 CR-V units in the US, reflecting growth rates of 23.9% and 11.4%, respectively. Civic sales also increased by 20.8%, totaling 200,381 units.

Volkswagen’s compact sedan, the Jetta, experienced a 51.5% sales growth year-over-year, with 71,829 units sold. The automaker also noted an 8.5% increase in Taos sales, totaling 63,882 vehicles.

Even in a recession year, Jeep recorded a 16% sales growth for the Compass, their most affordable SUV, selling 111,697 units. The Jeep Compass has recently been updated with a starting price of 27,495 USD.

In the pickup truck segment, Ford Maverick sales grew by 39.4% to 131,142 units in 2024, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz saw a 13% decline, selling only 32,033 vehicles.
