Rowan Atkinson: The Man Behind Mr. Bean and His Extravagant Car Collection

Widely known for his hilarious portrayal of Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson is a British comedy icon. But beyond his on-screen antics, the actor is also a passionate car enthusiast with a collection of million-dollar supercars.

On-screen, Rowan Atkinson is synonymous with the eccentric and hilarious Mr. Bean, whose comedic adventures often involve his trusty old car – a green Mini Cooper. Off-screen, however, the British actor is a renowned car collector with a taste for the extravagant.

Atkinson’s collection includes a range of Aston Martins, such as the DB7 Vantage, V8 Zagato, and Austin Metro. But it’s his other choices that truly stand out. One of the oldest cars in his collection is the 1939 BMW 328 Roadster, a stylish sports car that was only produced for five years before World War II interrupted BMW’s automotive production.

The 1951 Jaguar Mark VII is another vintage gem in Atkinson’s garage. This particular model was the first Jaguar to be equipped with an automatic transmission. Moving forward in time, we find the 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint, known for its powerful V8 engine and racing history. Unfortunately, the car met with an accident during the 2014 Goodwood Revival race, but Atkinson had it repaired and later sold it for $77,000.

One of the most notable cars in Atkinson’s collection is the 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which appeared in the 2018 film “Johnny English Strikes Again.” This rare car is equipped with a 5.3L V8 engine and was hailed as “Britain’s First Supercar” upon its release.

Now, let’s talk about the McLaren F1. With only 106 units produced between 1992 and 1998, this supercar is incredibly rare. Atkinson was one of the lucky few to own one of the 72 road-legal McLaren F1s. However, his ownership was marked by a few accidents, including a collision in 1999 and a more serious crash in 2011 that resulted in a $1 million repair bill. Despite this, the car still fetched a staggering $12.2 million when it was sold in 2015.

The 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 Heritage is a special edition model, paying homage to the original Land Rover from the 1940s. It features a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine and aesthetic touches like steel wheels and a metal grille to resemble the classic Series I Defender.

Atkinson also owns a 2002 Honda NSX, a special edition model with only 140 units produced worldwide. This Japanese supercar was designed to compete with the best from Ferrari and McLaren. Moving on, we have the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead, a luxurious convertible produced from 2007 to 2016. Atkinson’s Drophead is even more unique as it features a V16 engine instead of the standard V12.

The 2014 Bentley Mulsanne Birkin is another ultra-rare car in Atkinson’s collection, with only 22 units ever produced. This limited edition was inspired by Sir Tim Birkin, a legendary European racer from the 1920s and ’30s, known as the “Bentley Boy.”

Lastly, we have the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a modern supercar produced from 2010 to 2015. This car marked the first collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and the performance division, AMG, resulting in a powerful and sleek machine. SLS stands for “Super Leicht Sport,” which translates to “Super Light Sport.”

In conclusion, Rowan Atkinson’s car collection showcases his passion for automotive excellence and his appreciation for both classic and modern supercars. From vintage gems to rare limited editions, his garage is a testament to his success and unique taste.
