According to Motor1, the Honda Accord remains one of the best-selling conventional passenger cars in the US in 2024, despite a significant drop in sales compared to the previous year. In the States, Honda sold 162,723 Accord units, a 17.8% decrease from the 197,947 sales recorded in 2023.

In an interview with Motor1, a Honda spokesperson affirmed that the Japanese automaker had anticipated this move by proactively reducing the Accord production volume in 2024.

Earlier, Honda had consolidated two production lines in Marysville, Ohio, into one to prepare resources for its upcoming EV plant in the US later this year.

“We had foreseen a decrease in Honda Accord output for 2024 when we decided to merge the production lines at our Marysville facility,” affirmed the Honda representative.

They also mentioned that Honda is ramping up the production line for the Honda Civic. With the recent launch of the Civic hybrid version, the company is confident that this younger model can make up for the shortfall in the Accord’s production and sales in the previous year.

Compared to 2023, Honda Civic sales in the US increased by 40,000 units. Honda’s total sales in the US in 2024 grew by 11% year-over-year, mainly due to the growth of the HR-V, CR-V, and Pilot models.

The Motor1 website notes that the market share of the Honda Accord in the D-segment sedan category in the US is gradually shrinking.

Accord’s competitors, including the now-discontinued Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima, and Kia K5, all witnessed a decline in sales. The few names that posted growth were the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata, both of which introduced new generations or upgraded versions in 2024.

Motor1 notes that despite a nearly 20% drop in sales in 2024, the D-segment sedan remains the fourth best-selling conventional passenger car in the US for that year, following the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla.
