The story of the McLaren Elva supercar’s license plate has sparked quite the discussion online in recent days. Some people believe that this masterpiece bears the license plate 51N-004.05, a bid of VND 40 million at an auction. However, some contradicting opinions argue that it is easy to purchase a fancy license plate these days, so there is no reason for Minh “Nhựa” to settle for a less-than-perfect plate for his nearly VND 200 billion supercar.
Surprisingly, Minh “Nhựa”‘s wife accidentally revealed the license plate number of the McLaren Elva during a livestream, confirming that the car indeed bears the plate 51N-004.05.
But before you jump to conclusions, let’s take a look at the license plate of another one of Minh “Nhựa”‘s supercars: the Pagani Huayra. Specifically, at the beginning of last year, Minh “Nhựa” had the Pagani Huayra transferred to his name by his father. He then randomly selected a new license plate for the car, which turned out to be 51L-00.405.
So, when it comes to aesthetics, the Pagani Huayra and the McLaren Elva have license plates with identical numbers, differing only in the alphabetic prefix. As for the significance of the number 405, it is a distinctive number associated with Minh “Nhựa”‘s family business, which explains why he would go to great lengths to acquire a license plate featuring this number.
Nonetheless, after nearly two years in Vietnam, the McLaren Elva has finally completed the necessary procedures to hit the roads. However, it may take some time before the car makes its public debut, as Minh “Nhựa” once revealed that he prefers to admire the car rather than drive it.
Speaking of the McLaren Elva, Minh “Nhựa” spared no expense in bringing this supercar to Vietnam, revealing that the endeavor cost him USD 8 million, equivalent to VND 190 billion. This is nearly VND 50 billion more than the official selling price of the McLaren Elva, which Minh “Nhựa” disclosed three years ago as VND 143 billion, including VAT.
The McLaren Elva was initially planned to be produced in a limited run of 399 units, but this number was later reduced to 299 and then further adjusted to only 149 cars by the British automaker.
Aside from its striking design, which forgoes a roof and windows, the McLaren Elva is equipped with the same engine found in other McLaren supercars such as the 720S, 720S Spider, and the hypercar Senna owned by Hoàng Kim Khánh. This V8, twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter engine delivers a maximum output of 804 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Thanks to this potent drivetrain, the McLaren Elva can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds.
