MG’s sales consultants have recently revealed that the upcoming G50 MPV in Vietnam will be offered in three variants: 1.5 MT Com, 1.5 AT Del, and 1.5 AT Lux.

The expected price of the vehicle is around 520 million VND. Dealerships have also mentioned that the first batch of vehicles in Vietnam will be limited to 300 units. Since early November 2024, several MG dealerships have started accepting reservations for the G50 MPV.

MG G50 belongs to the mid-range traditional MPV segment, with dimensions of 4,825 x 1,825 x 1,800 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. These measurements make it longer than the Innova Cross and significantly larger than competitors like the Xpander, XL7, and Veloz Cross.

MG G50 sports a classic MPV design, with a tall and boxy rear end to maximize interior space. The front grille of the G50 resembles that of the Toyota Alphard, featuring a large grille that dominates the front fascia. The headlights seamlessly connect to the grille, while the lower section showcases prominent L-shaped accents on both sides. The rear design is relatively simple, featuring taillights and a large chrome accent in a U-shape on the bumper.

The top-of-the-line 1.5 AT Lux variant will come with LED projector headlights, while the other two variants will feature halogen lights.

In terms of wheels, the 1.5 MT Com variant will be fitted with 16-inch steel wheels with silver plastic covers, the 1.5 AT Del will have 16-inch alloy wheels, and the 1.5 AT Lux will boast 17-inch alloy wheels.

Regarding color options, the entry-level 1.5 MT Com will be available in white, silver, and black. On the other hand, the other two variants offer a choice of black, blue, and pearl white.

When it comes to the interior, each variant of the MG G50 will offer different features and amenities. Specifically, the base 1.5 MT Com model lacks a touchscreen infotainment system and instead comes with a radio, fabric seats, and manual adjustments. This variant is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

On the other hand, the 1.5 AT Del variant includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, fabric seats with manual adjustments, and a 2-speaker audio system. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and features a shift-by-wire gear selector located behind the steering wheel.

The range-topping 1.5 AT Lux variant takes it up a notch with leather upholstery, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. It also benefits from a 6-speaker audio system. This variant also offers the option of a 7-seat layout, as opposed to the standard 8-seat configuration in the lower variants.

In terms of safety features, the high-end variant comes fully loaded with ABS, ESP, EBA, EBD, HAC, TPMS, rear parking sensors, and four airbags. The base variant, however, lacks cruise control and has only two airbags. The mid-range variant also has just two airbags.

All three variants of the MG G50 are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering an impressive 169 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a front-wheel-drive system.

With a starting price of 520 million VND and a powerful 1.5L turbocharged engine producing 169 horsepower, the MG G50 presents a compelling alternative to the Mitsubishi Xpander, which has dominated MPV sales in Vietnam for seven consecutive years. However, when it comes to brand reputation, reliability, and customer trust, Japanese brands like Mitsubishi still hold a strong advantage in the Vietnamese market. It remains to be seen how the MG G50 will perform in this highly competitive segment.
