Thailand’s automotive industry has seen a recent decline, with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reporting a January 2025 production output of 107,103 units, a 24.63% decrease from the previous year. This marks the 18th consecutive month of falling automotive production in the country.

Vehicle sales across Thailand in the first month of 2025 reached only 48,092 units, a 12.26% drop compared to January 2024.

Thai automotive exports for January stood at 62,321 units, a 28.13% decrease, the lowest in 33 months, due to intensifying competition from Chinese automakers.

Thailand is the largest automotive manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia and a key export base for leading global brands such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Honda.

In 2018, Thailand’s automotive manufacturing peaked at over 2.167 million vehicles. However, the industry has faced mounting pressure due to economic challenges and fierce competition from Chinese automakers.
