Volvo recently unveiled its new global flagship model, the ES90, marking the brand’s first vehicle to feature the new 800V electric architecture.
The ES90, being the electric version of the S90, shares a similar design aesthetic. The front of the vehicle boasts the distinctive Thor’s Hammer T-shaped headlights, accompanied by a prominent Volvo logo and a large air intake below.
The Volvo ES90 is equipped with the SPA2 platform, similar to the EX90, but the two vehicles differ in dimensions. The ES90 has a slightly longer wheelbase at 3,099 meters, yet its overall length is shorter. It has a lower ground clearance but a wider body.
The interior of the Volvo ES90 showcases a minimalist design packed with convenient features, including a 14.5-inch vertical center touchscreen with the Google operating system, a smaller 9-inch screen behind the steering wheel, and a heads-up display.
With the 800V technology, the ES90 boasts a 30% improvement in charging time. It can charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes when connected to a 350 kW DC fast charger. Even a 10-minute charge provides a substantial range of up to 300 km, depending on ambient temperature.
Additionally, the ES90’s new battery management software and hardware enable an impressive range of up to 700 km on a single charge, as per the WLTP standard (a global standard for measuring fuel consumption).
The Volvo ES90 offers three distinct configurations. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive version delivers a maximum output of 245 horsepower, paired with a 92 kWh battery. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant adds a front-mounted motor, boosting the system’s total output to 442 horsepower. The highest-performance version utilizes the same setup but delivers an impressive 670 horsepower.
Volvo is currently taking orders for the ES90 in select European markets, but the brand is yet to announce the vehicle’s specific pricing details.
