In a recent announcement, Honda revealed its plans to introduce three electric vehicle models to the Southeast Asian market by 2027.
However, the Japanese automaker has not yet disclosed the identities of these three new models. Speculations suggest that they could be the Honda e:N1, an upgraded Civic, and an upgraded HR-V.
The Honda e:N1 is the electric version of the HR-V. It has been introduced in China as the e:NS1 and in Europe as the e:NY1. In the Malaysian market, this model is expected to be available in the coming months.
Powered by a 201-horsepower electric motor, the Honda e:N1 delivers 310 Nm of torque and front-wheel drive. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h. Equipped with a 68.8 kWh battery pack, the e:N1 offers a range of over 400 km on a single charge, as per the NEDC cycle.
Globally, Honda aims to launch seven electric vehicles from its ‘0 Series’ by 2030. To achieve this goal, the company has invested $96 billion in research and development of electric vehicles to compete with industry leaders such as Tesla, Volkswagen, and BYD.
The 0 Series will include a diverse range of vehicles: a sedan, a mid-size SUV, an affordable SUV, a large three-row SUV, a compact SUV, a small SUV, and another smaller sedan.
In addition to electric cars, Honda is also focused on developing electric motorcycles. The company plans to introduce 30 electric motorcycle models globally by 2030, targeting sales of 4 million units annually.
