In the lead-up to its launch, Volvo has recently dropped more teaser images of its upcoming all-electric sedan, the ES90.
The Volvo ES90 is the electric version of the S90 and is the first Volvo model to feature the brand’s new 800V electric architecture.
With the 800V technology, the ES90’s charging time is improved by up to 30%. It can charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes when connected to a 350 kW DC fast charger. Moreover, a 10-minute charge provides enough power for up to 300 km of range, depending on the ambient temperature.
The ES90 also features new battery management software and hardware, resulting in a remarkable driving range of up to 700 km on a single charge according to the WLTP standard (a global standard designed to accurately measure fuel consumption).
Following the CLTC standard (used for testing the range and fuel consumption of electric vehicles), the ES90 offers a range of 740 km for the all-wheel-drive variant equipped with two electric motors and a 106 kWh battery pack.
The impressive acceleration and range are made possible by the ES90’s lightweight electric motors, smaller battery pack compared to the EX90, and other weight-saving components.
As the electric version of the S90, the ES90’s design is similar, with some exterior differences: the rear side windows feature LED lighting, the roof is made of glass, the door handles are flush-fitting, and a LiDar sensor is mounted on the roof.
The Volvo ES90 is set to make its official debut on March 5, and the brand is also working on an upgraded version of the combustion-engine S90, which is expected to launch later this year.
