As technology advances, so do the sophisticated tactics of scammers.

In 2021, American billionaire Michael Mente, CEO of the famous Revolve brand, fell victim to a car dealer impersonator who scammed him out of $5.4 million.

Taveon Rogers, a resident of Texas, posed as Jean-Pierre MR Clement, a luxury car dealer based in France, and tricked Mente into wiring $5.4 million for the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz AMG One.

After transferring the money, the billionaire patiently awaited the delivery of his car. However, he later received a call from the US Department of Homeland Security, informing him that his money was gone and that no such car dealership existed in France.

In 2023, Taveon Rogers attempted a similar scam and managed to steal $3.19 million. He is now facing legal consequences and is charged with crimes such as forging contracts, falsifying bank documents, and impersonating representatives of Aston Martin and other car dealerships.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG One is an expensive and rare supercar, with only 275 units worldwide. Taveon Rogers exploited this exclusivity to successfully scam multiple individuals.
