The motorcycle market in Vietnam is gearing up with a range of new models being introduced to domestic customers as a way to stimulate demand. The advantages of convenience and affordability make motorcycles the most popular personal transportation option in the country.
In the first quarter of 2023, the motorcycle market has yet to explode, with most manufacturers only introducing minor updates to their existing models. It is likely that the market will see the launch of many new motorcycle models in the coming months.
New Generation Honda Dream
Information about the Honda Dream in Vietnam emerged at the end of January when the vehicle’s design was registered with the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office. Currently, Honda Vietnam’s lineup of manual transmission motorcycles lacks a model in the price range of 40 million VND, and the Honda Dream is expected to fill this gap.
The new generation Honda Dream first appeared in late 2020 in Cambodia. Unlike the previous Dream models sold in Vietnam, the new generation features significant changes in both design and equipment to better suit modern trends.

The new Dream is equipped with LED headlights and position lights, and its engine has been upgraded from 110 cc to 125 cc. These are notable improvements over the previous generation. The bike still features wire-spoke wheels and drum brakes on both wheels…
In Cambodia, the Honda Dream is available in three color options: black, red, and white. Previously, this model was imported by private stores and sold at a price of 160 million VND, which is significantly higher than the converted price of 60 million VND in Cambodia.
New Yamaha FreeGo
Since the Honda Vision was price-hiked last year, the Yamaha FreeGo has gained attention from consumers thanks to its affordable price and numerous safety features. After four years of presence in Vietnam, the FreeGo has not received any significant upgrades, and it is likely that the new version introduced at the 2022 Indonesia Motor Show will soon be brought in to replace the current model.
In addition to a sportier and more masculine design, the new FreeGo also features a new speedometer, a front storage compartment, and more. Overall, these upgrades make the FreeGo a more compelling option compared to its direct competitor, the Honda Air Blade 125.

The power of the new FreeGo remains unchanged, as it continues to use a single-cylinder 125 cc engine that produces 9.3 horsepower and 9.5 Nm of torque. One of the strengths of the FreeGo compared to its competitors is its ABS front brake system, smart key, and temporary engine shut-off feature…
Currently, Yamaha Vietnam distributes the FreeGo in two versions: Standard and Special. The suggested retail price for this scooter is 30.5 million and 34.4 million VND, respectively. In reality, the price of the FreeGo at dealerships is slightly higher, with a premium of about 500,000 VND.
Locally Assembled Honda Vario 125
The name Vario is not new, but the 125 cc version of this model is planned to be assembled and distributed by Honda Vietnam. At the end of last year, the Vario 160 was officially launched.
The latest Vario 125 maintains its familiar compact design instead of adopting the changes seen in the larger Vario 160. The wind deflector has been slightly adjusted for a sportier feel, and the rear tire size has been increased by 10 mm to 100/80. Notably, the bike now comes with a smart key system.

The Vario 125 is currently sold by private import stores for 47-50 million VND. |
Honda has not upgraded the engine of the Vario 125. It still features the eSP 124.8 cc engine that delivers 11 horsepower and 10.8 Nm of torque. Anti-lock braking (ABS) technology has not been applied to the Vario 125.
The Honda Vario 125 is currently sold by private import stores at prices ranging from 47 to 50 million VND, depending on the version. If officially sold, Honda Vietnam is likely to offer it at a lower price, similar to what they did with the Vario 160.
New Suzuki GSX-S150
The Suzuki GSX-S150 was first introduced to Vietnamese consumers in October 2017 and has not received any significant upgrades apart from cosmetic changes. Currently, the GSX-S150 is out of stock, and Suzuki Vietnam is expected to soon launch the new version of this model.
The GSX-S150 is also known as the Gixxer 150. In Japan, the Gixxer 150 received an upgrade earlier this year, with design changes that resemble the larger Gixxer 250.

This upgrade also added an anti-lock braking system (ABS) to the 150 cc naked bike, making it more competitive against rivals such as the Honda CBR150R and Yamaha MT-15.
Before sales stopped, the Suzuki GSX-S150 was officially sold at a price of 63.9-64.4 million VND. This price point is more accessible compared to the Yamaha MT-15 (69 million VND) and the Honda CBR150R Streetster (105.5 million VND).
