The Vietnam Motor Show 2024 (VMS 2024) witnessed a significant shift towards electrification, with a wide range of electric and hybrid vehicles on display. Among them were familiar all-electric models like the MG Cyberster, as well as new entries making their debut in the Vietnamese market.

MG Cyberster Priced at 3.2 Billion VND

MG showcased its well-known all-electric roadster, the Cyberster, at the VMS 2024. This time, however, the car was not just a concept or a test drive version; MG announced a selling price of 3.2 billion VND for the Cyberster, with a limited run of 100 units for the Vietnamese market.

One notable feature of the MG Cyberster is its gull-wing doors, which add a unique touch to the vehicle’s entry and exit experience.

To comply with Vietnamese standards, the MG Cyberster has been equipped with a CCS2 charging port. Previously, the test drive version that appeared in Vietnam last year featured a GB/T charging port, which is common in China.

At the moment, the MG Cyberster stands alone in the all-electric roadster segment, with no direct competitors.

MG also showcased the IM LS7, an all-electric SUV with dimensions comparable to the Ford Explorer. For more detailed images of the IM LS7, click here.

IM is an electric vehicle brand under the SAIC umbrella. Currently, the IM LS7 SUV is only available for display purposes at the VMS 2024, and it is not yet available for purchase in Vietnam.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the IM LS7 is its cabin. With the touch of a button, the front passenger seat can be folded down and tucked under the dashboard, while the rear seat reclines to create a comfortable “bed” for passengers, perfect for relaxing on long journeys.

Additionally, the all-electric MG4 EV made an appearance at the exhibition. While it boasts an impressive exterior, the standard version features fabric upholstery. The MG4 EV is offered at 828 million VND and 948 million VND for the two available variants.

BYD’s Electric Lineup

BYD, a Chinese automaker that entered the Vietnamese market in July, showcased its range of all-electric vehicles at the VMS. Their display included the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, Han, and M6, all of which are currently on sale in Vietnam.

The BYD booth featured the Han and M6 models at the forefront, with the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal positioned behind them. The camping-style display, which previously showcased the Atto 3, now highlighted the M6.

BYD also exhibited its e-Platform 3.0, the foundation for their electric vehicle development, along with their Blade battery module.

Additionally, BYD introduced the YangWang U8 and Denza N9, both of which are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) with a combined maximum range of 1,000 km, according to the company.

According to a sales consultant, there was a customer who placed a deposit for the YangWang U8 directly at the VMS 2024. The consultant revealed that the expected price for this EREV SUV is around 8 billion VND, but they could not provide a definite timeline for the vehicle’s arrival in Vietnam.

Skoda Enyaq Makes Its Debut

The Skoda booth at the VMS 2024 featured the new Skoda Kodiaq, but the all-electric Skoda Enyaq also drew attention. For more detailed images of the Skoda Enyaq, click here.

The Skoda Enyaq’s front end features a distinctive closed grille with vertical slats, instantly identifying it as a Skoda model, while its electric nature is emphasized by a closed-off grille design.

The wheels are aerodynamically optimized to enhance the efficiency of the 62-82 kWh battery pack.

Skoda has not yet disclosed their plans for the Enyaq in Vietnam. If introduced, it would compete directly with the VinFast VF 7 (starting at 850 million VND) and the GAC Aion Y Plus (888 million VND).

Toyota’s Electric SUV Concept

The Toyota FT-3e electric SUV concept, despite being the centerpiece of Toyota’s display, received surprisingly little attention from visitors. Instead, guests flocked to other models on display, including the Toyota Alphard, Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross, Camry, and Land Cruiser Prado.

The FT-3e features a futuristic design with a pixelated light bar across the front and sharp, angular lines on the body. It also includes an external display that shows the vehicle’s battery level.

However, Toyota kept the FT-3e closed to visitors, so the interior design remains a mystery.

The FT-3e made its first appearance at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023.

Notable Absences

According to Tri Thức – Znews, the all-electric Suzuki Swift is expected to enter the Vietnamese market soon, but it did not make an appearance at the VMS 2024. Similarly, Isuzu’s D-Max electric pickup truck, which was showcased at the Bangkok International Motor Show in March, was also notably absent.

The highly anticipated YangWang U9, an all-electric supercar with 1,287 horsepower and a staggering 1,680 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 2 seconds, was also missing from the exhibition.

While Honda showcased the HR-V at the VMS 2024, they did not bring the all-electric e:N1, a counterpart to the HR-V in the electric SUV segment.
