According to Carscoops, Suzuki has temporarily halted the sale of several models in the Australian market as they do not meet the upcoming safety regulations.

The affected models include Ignis, Swift Sport, Vitara, S-Cross, and the 3-door variant of Jimny. The suspension will take effect from March 1, 2025, due to non-compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADR), which includes specific requirements for autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems.

The Suzuki Ignis is the only model without AEB, while the other models are equipped with an older version of the system. In a statement to CarExpert, Michael Pachota, Executive Director of Suzuki Australia, said that these models have reached the end of their life cycle and their removal from the lineup has always been part of Suzuki’s plan.

Pachota added that while they have stopped production orders for the aforementioned models, Suzuki Australia still has sufficient stock to supply customers until the end of 2025.

Suzuki is seeking solutions to bring back the 3-door Jimny to the Australian market after clearing the current inventory. The Japanese automaker did not go into details, but the 3-door Jimny is likely to be equipped with a more advanced AEB system using dual cameras, which is already present in the 5-door variant.

Suzuki also plans to introduce hybrid versions of the Vitara and S-Cross to Australian customers. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Ignis and Suzuki Swift Sport are expected to be discontinued entirely in Australia, but the automaker’s lineup in the country will soon be expanded with the addition of the Indian-made Suzuki Fronx.

According to Carscoops, the ADR regulations in Australia are also impacting several models from other automakers. For instance, the Mitsubishi ASX, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Mazda6 have all been discontinued in Australia due to non-compliance with the regulations.
