BYD has recently unveiled its first electric vehicles based on the Super e-Platform chassis platform with a high-voltage 1000V system. To complement these electric vehicles, BYD has also introduced the “Flash Megawatt” charging station, a 1000kW charger.
This charging power is twice as fast as Tesla’s super-fast charging stations (500 kW). The high-voltage 1000V charging system is designed to achieve refueling speeds comparable to those of gasoline-powered vehicles.
According to BYD, the new charging platform integrates 12 core components, including a 23,000 rpm electric motor and silicon carbide power electronics. When charged with a single-gun DC charger, the new system can deliver up to 800 kW, while a dual-gun DC charger increases the charging speed to 1000 kW.
With a maximum power output of 1000kW or 1MW, BYD’s charger supports 10C charging. It can charge enough battery for 400km in 5 minutes or 2 km in one second.
The electric vehicle platform will first be equipped on two new models: the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV, with starting prices of 270,000 Chinese yuan (equivalent to 953.54 million VND).Â
In the future, BYD will build over 4,000 super-fast charging stations across China to support this new platform. However, the company has not disclosed the specific timeline for this rollout. Currently, BYD vehicle owners mainly rely on charging stations from other car brands or third-party-operated public charging stations to charge their vehicles.
In fact, since 2014, Tesla has been providing super-fast charging stations in the Chinese market. After many years, BYD’s competitors such as Nio, Li Auto, Xpeng, and Zeekr have also heavily invested in building charging infrastructure.
