BYD has recently unveiled its all-new platform for electric vehicles, putting an end to the anxiety of long charging times. The innovative platform, named Super e-Platform, promises a breakthrough in the commercial electric vehicle market.
The core components of the Super e-Platform have been thoroughly upgraded, including the motor, electronic controller, and battery. This enhancement enables a charging power of up to 1MW, currently the highest in the market. With the new platform, vehicles can gain an additional 2 km of range for every second of charging, offering up to 400 km of range with just a 5-minute charge.
The Super e-Platform is equipped with a 580kW motor, capable of achieving a top speed of over 300 km/h, as seen in the BYD HAN L and BYD TANG L models in the Chinese market. This impressive top speed and rapid acceleration are made possible by the new motor technology, which can operate at up to 30,000 rpmโanother record-breaking feature in the commercial electric vehicle market.
Mr. Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, shared that the new technology aims to address the primary concern of electric vehicle users: โOur goal is to make charging an electric vehicle as fast as refueling a gas-powered car, achieving parity between gasoline, diesel, and electricity in terms of refueling speed.โ
To attain this balance, the charging process requires a combination of high voltage and high current. The Super e-Platform is the worldโs first mass-produced commercial automotive platform to enable kV-level voltage across the entire battery, motor, power supply, and air-conditioning system. BYD has developed and mass-produced new SiC power chips with a rated voltage of up to 1,500V, the highest in the industry for mass-produced SiC power chips.
During the unveiling of the Super e-Platform, Executive Vice President of BYD and President of the BYD Auto Engineering Research Institute, Lian Yubo, also introduced the industryโs first liquid-cooled megawatt-level fast-charging system, capable of delivering a maximum power of 1,360kW.
BYD plans to build over 4,000 megawatt-level fast-charging stations across China. Additionally, BYD has developed โdual-gun headโ technology, which can upgrade fast chargers to super-fast chargers and super-chargers to fast chargers. This world-first โintelligent efficiency enhancementโ technology ensures compatibility with public charging stations, allowing convenient charging at various locations.
