In November 2024, Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam officially introduced its first model to domestic customers, the Omoda C5. In January 2025, the company will launch its second model, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. This is one of the models that the Chery brand’s subsidiaries plan to introduce in the Vietnamese market, along with the Jaecoo J7 and Omoda E5.
True to its name, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is equipped with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, comprising a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor on the front axle, and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
This PHEV powertrain delivers a combined output of 347 horsepower and a maximum torque of 525 Nm. With these specifications, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be the most powerful model in the compact SUV segment in the Vietnamese market in the future.
According to the manufacturer, when using both the gasoline engine and the battery, the vehicle can travel up to 1,200 kilometers. If using only the battery, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV can go up to 88 kilometers. As a result, the car has an average fuel consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. Moreover, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV supports fast DC charging and has a V2L function, allowing the use of the vehicle’s battery to charge external devices.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV can run for almost 90 kilometers without using a drop of gasoline
As the PHEV version of the Jaecoo J7, this model shares the same overall design and specifications as the regular gasoline-powered version. With a length of 4,538 millimeters and a wheelbase of 2,672 millimeters, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be positioned in the compact SUV segment in Vietnam, competing with the Toyota Corolla Cross and the upcoming Haval Jolion.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV has a larger size compared to typical compact SUVs in Vietnam
Unlike its sibling, the Omoda C5, in the same segment, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV features a rounder and smoother design, reminiscent of the luxury SUV Range Rover. The highlight of the vehicle is its large grille with vertical slats, two-tier headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, hidden door handles, and connected taillights.
