According to Motor1, owners of Ford F-Series pickup trucks in Texas are advised to consider protective measures for their rear-end components. This warning comes amidst a string of thefts targeting the popular American vehicle’s expensive taillights.
The Webster Police Department in Texas has arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of taillight assemblies, with an estimated total value of $92,000, from 34 victims across the state. These incidents have occurred over the past few months, primarily in Harris County, Texas.
Fox 26 Houston reports that the suspects are believed to have targeted vehicles in the area between September 2024 and January 2025, with a particular focus on the Ford F-350, which had a starting price of $48,010 in 2024.
Motor1 highlights the costly nature of replacing these taillight assemblies, with victims in the Harris County case stating they had to pay between $4,500 and $6,500 for the necessary repairs. In a separate incident last month in San Antonio, Texas, a victim shared with News 4SA that they incurred costs exceeding $6,000 to replace stolen taillights on their Ford F-350.

The issue of taillight theft is not an isolated one, as evidenced by a recent arrest in San Antonio, where two individuals were found with dozens of car taillights in their possession, according to KENS5. Motor1 attributes the allure of these thefts to the accessibility of taillights, their lack of protection, and the incorporation of costly LED technology and sensors.
The Ford F-Series’ popularity in the US also contributes to the frequency of these crimes, making it a common target for auto part thieves.
