## Traffic Police Take Action Against Self-Assembled Vehicles in Hanoi

After a period of intense crackdown on self-assembled vehicles by authorities, many have been sold to outlying areas or neighboring provinces of Hanoi. However, in reality, the demand for such vehicles among locals remains, making it challenging to encourage voluntary disposal of these unsafe modes of transportation.

In response to this situation, the 9th Road Traffic Police Team of the Hanoi Capital Traffic Police has intensified inspections and violation handling while collaborating with local authorities to promote awareness and encourage voluntary destruction of these vehicles to ensure traffic order and safety. One of their key focus areas is Hoai Duc district.

Self-assembled vehicles pose a challenge and danger in many localities.

Captain Pham Van Luyen, Head of the 9th Road Traffic Police Team, shared: “Hoai Duc has many craft villages like the fine arts village in Son Dong and the confectionery production in La Phu. Some households have purchased three or four-wheeled self-assembled vehicles for their business and production needs. Encouraging them to give up these vehicles is no small feat, but with the support of local authorities, many vehicle owners have voluntarily submitted applications for the destruction of their self-assembled vehicles.”

On March 16th, the authorities successfully persuaded four owners of three-wheeled self-assembled vehicles to voluntarily destroy their unsafe vehicles.

Mr. Do Manh Hung (born in 1993, residing in Hoai Duc) shared: “I used to own a self-assembled three-wheeled vehicle for agricultural purposes. But after being educated by the traffic police about the safety risks, I decided to dismantle it myself and pledged not to use such vehicles anymore.” Three other vehicle owners shared similar sentiments and voluntarily applied for the destruction of their three-wheeled self-assembled vehicles. In addition to awareness campaigns, the 9th Road Traffic Police Team has also stepped up inspections and taken strict action against violators. At 9:45 AM on March 16th, the team spotted a three-wheeled self-assembled vehicle on La Phu Street (Hoai Duc district) and proceeded to stop and inspect it.

The driver, Mr. L.Q.T (born in 1994, residing in La Phu commune), admitted that the vehicle was self-assembled and lacked proper documentation. The team recorded the violation and temporarily confiscated the vehicle. During the same morning, four other three-wheeled self-assembled vehicles were detected and similarly dealt with.

From March 1st until now, the 9th Road Traffic Police Team has detected and handled 14 cases of three-wheeled self-assembled vehicle violations. Of these, nine vehicles were impounded and are undergoing confiscation procedures, while five vehicles were voluntarily destroyed by their owners after awareness campaigns.

The leader of the 9th Traffic Police Team emphasized: “Three-wheeled self-assembled vehicles are prohibited from operating on the roads. Using these vehicles not only affects the urban aesthetic but also poses a safety hazard. We are determined to take strict action without any exceptions. At the same time, raising awareness and encouraging voluntary disposal of unsafe vehicles is an important strategy to ensure traffic order and safety in the area.”

By intensifying inspections, violation handling, and promoting voluntary disposal of three-wheeled self-assembled vehicles, the authorities are urging locals to improve their awareness and contribute to enhancing traffic order, safety, and building a safe and civilized traffic environment for the community and themselves.
