Inkas, a renowned Canadian automotive tuner, has enhanced VIP protection on the Toyota Land Cruiser with a range of upgrades to the vehicle’s body, engine compartment, and fire suppression system.
Inkas, a well-known automotive tuner based in Canada, has taken the Toyota Land Cruiser – already an icon of rugged SUVs – to new heights with a comprehensive armored upgrade package. Founded in 1996, Inkas specializes in providing armored bulletproof solutions for automobiles, serving both individual clients and government organizations, transforming civilian vehicles into discreet “mobile fortresses.” With the Land Cruiser, they have created a special edition that combines its signature boxy looks with impressive protection, making it ideal for politicians, celebrities, or use in active conflict zones.
Inkas’ armored Land Cruiser achieves a BR6 protection level, meaning it can withstand attacks from assault rifles and explosions of up to two DM51 hand grenades. The vehicle is equipped with bullet-resistant steel surrounding the cabin, thick bulletproof glass, and a rear steel bulkhead, ensuring maximum safety. Notably, the Runflat tire system enables the car to keep moving even if the tires are punctured or damaged, an essential feature in emergency situations.
To further enhance protection, Inkas adds extra bullet-resistant steel to the vehicle’s floor, firewall, fuel tank, and pillars. The armor layers are designed to overlap, eliminating any potential gaps that bullets could penetrate. According to the company, the armored Land Cruiser can withstand gunfire from assault rifles like the AK-47 and even explosions from hand grenades – a level of protection typically seen in military vehicles rather than civilian SUVs.
Customers can further customize the vehicle with additional features such as engine compartment armoring, automatic fire suppression systems, air filtration systems for toxic environments, warning strobe lights, night vision technology, reinforced front/rear bumpers, and even an emergency roof hatch for quick egress.
However, the robust armoring also significantly increases the vehicle’s weight. To address this, Inkas upgrades the suspension system, ensuring the car maintains stable performance across all terrains. While the engine remains untouched, the SUV utilizes Toyota’s original 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid powertrain, generating 326 horsepower and 618 Nm of torque. This power is sufficient to propel the heavy-duty vehicle, although it cannot match the speed of standard Land Cruiser variants.
