According to Motor1, BMW has finally made center lock wheels available to US customers. Back in November 2023, the German automaker introduced center lock wheels for the G8X M range, but the product has been long unavailable in the American automotive market.

BMW Blog quotes BMW North America as saying that the center lock kit costs a mere USD 6,696, while the retail price for the entire assembly, including new axles, is USD 11,037.90.

However, installation costs, including dealership parts and labor, push the total cost of equipping center lock wheels on the car to approximately USD 19,995.23, which is more expensive than the starting price of a Nissan Versa at USD 17,190.

Per BMW Blog, the necessary parts include a removal and installation tool (USD 567), Sythes Glep 1 grease (USD 49), Wuerth Al 1100 aluminum adhesive (USD 51.99), a center lock socket (USD 323), and a torque wrench capable of at least 1,000 Nm (approx. USD 1,270).

While the costs are not insignificant, Motor1 argues that center lock wheels add a sporty and convenient touch to the BMW. Instead of having to loosen five lug nuts to change a tire, users only need to unscrew a single large nut at the center of the wheel. This setup is, therefore, popular in racing, allowing pit crews to quickly and easily perform tire changes in the pit lane.

Per BMW Blog, Porsche is renowned for offering this type of wheel on its GT range. Other brands such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Koenigsegg also feature center lock wheels on some of their models.

The 963M wheels with center locks are compatible with the latest M2, M3, and M4 models. These forged wheels are lightweight, featuring a Jet Black matte finish with Y-spoke design and M Performance lettering. According to BMW Blog, the front wheels are 19 inches in diameter, accommodating 275/35 ZR19 tires, while the rear wheels are 20 inches and use 285/30 ZR20 tires.

The German automaker states that the center lock wheels are offered in limited quantities in the US.
