In a bid to refresh its brand and attract new customers, Nissan is planning to launch the new X-Trail with a modern and standout design, along with integrated fuel-efficient hybrid technology.

Nissan has just released the first teaser for the 2026 X-Trail, revealing a modern front-end design that aligns with the new language also seen on the latest Qashqai. Specifically, it features a large V-shaped grille with integrated LED daytime running lights divided into five unique segments, creating a sophisticated and powerful look. The highlight is the slender projector headlights, which are pushed up high and separated, reminiscent of the premium SUV Murano, and a complete departure from the old X-Trail’s tiered design.

In the US, the 2026 X-Trail will be a pioneer in adopting the e-Power 3.0 technology, marking Nissan’s evolution after a long period of missing opportunities in the hybrid market – something the company has acknowledged. This technology uses a 1.5L gasoline engine solely to generate electricity, powering a 5-in-1 integrated electric motor inherited from Nissan’s newest pure electric vehicles (EVs). As a result, the car still drives purely electrically, providing a smooth and quiet ride like an EV but with the added flexibility of gasoline engine support. This is also Nissan’s effort to compete in the increasingly vibrant hybrid SUV segment.

In addition to the e-Power version, the new X-Trail will also offer traditional gasoline and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine options. However, inside sources suggest that Nissan is still unsure about its deployment strategy. It is likely that the PHEV version will be a variation borrowed from the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, rather than an entirely new, independent design. The model is expected to launch officially by the end of 2025, promising significant appeal in key markets such as the US and Asia. Alongside the X-Trail, Nissan also teased a range of upcoming models, including the Leaf (SUV), Almera (sedan), Pathfinder (SUV), and Micra (electric vehicle).
