Despite being unveiled back in 2017, the second-generation Tesla Roadster has yet to show any signs of an official launch date.

Interestingly, Tesla’s website continues to accept deposits from customers, with the process remaining unchanged for the past eight years.

When visiting Tesla’s homepage, users will find the option to order the Tesla Roadster still intact. To secure a purchase slot, customers must put down an initial deposit of $5,000 (VND 127.94 million), followed by an additional $45,000 (VND 1.15 billion) within the next ten days. However, no information is provided regarding vehicle delivery timing.

The electric supercar, Tesla Roadster, garnered attention upon its debut in 2017 with impressive specifications, including a 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 250 mph. It boasted a range of up to 620 miles on a single charge. However, after eight years, these numbers are no longer as outstanding compared to current electric sports car offerings.

Initially, CEO Elon Musk declared that the Tesla Roadster would enter production in 2020. However, this timeline has been repeatedly pushed back to 2021, 2022, 2023, and now 2024. Late last year, the CEO merely stated that the design was “nearly finished” without providing any specific commitments regarding its launch.

Previously, Tesla had estimated the Roadster’s price to be between $200,000 and $250,000 (VND 5.11 – 6.39 billion). However, this figure has since been removed from the company’s website, raising concerns that the official price could be significantly higher due to increased development costs over the years of delays.

With a waiting period longer than the lifespan of many conventional automobiles, the Tesla Roadster has become one of Tesla’s most controversial projects. While deposits are still being accepted, whether Tesla will actually be able to deliver this vehicle remains a significant question mark.
