At the meeting on the plan, roadmap for the transformation and development of the electric bus system and green energy in Hanoi, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen requested that the city strive to fully transition to green buses by 2030 at the latest.

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, the transition to green energy vehicles is an issue of great concern to the city due to the increasingly serious environmental pollution. The city is not only focusing on electric buses but also aiming for a comprehensive transition to green energy for all vehicles, including taxis and personal vehicles.

To encourage the people and economic components to participate in the transition to green energy vehicles, the city will have mechanisms and policies to promote a faster transition process. Regarding this issue, the city’s leaders have assigned the Department of Finance to research and propose solutions.

Hanoi sets the requirement to green the entire bus network by 2030

“The Hanoi People’s Committee assigns the Department of Construction to review and complete the plan to convert buses to the use of green energy, striving to fully transition to green buses by 2030 at the latest.

Along with that, the Department of Construction will research and build a set of criteria to evaluate transport units, towards granting “stars” to green bus companies, to improve the quality of service for the people of the capital…

At the same time, the Department coordinates with localities to review and include in the planning for the construction of a system of charging stations to serve the transition to green energy,” said Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen.

Reporting at the meeting, a representative of the Department of Construction said that the city’s bus network currently has 153 routes, including 128 subsidized bus routes, 9 non-subsidized bus routes, 13 peripheral bus routes, and 3 city tour routes.

The number of subsidized buses is 1,903, of which 282 use clean energy (139 CNG buses and 143 electric buses); and over 1,200 vehicles meet Euro IV emission standards or higher.

Based on the proposals of the transport units and the approval of Hanoi City, four transport units (including Hanoi Transport Corporation, Newway Transport Joint Stock Company, Hai Van International Transport Joint Venture Company, and Bao Yen Tourism Service Construction Private Enterprise) are investing and piloting the operation of five electric bus routes with 76 vehicles.
