The United States Secret Service will soon be adding a new specialized SUV to their fleet, courtesy of General Motors (GM), alongside the armored limousine, ‘The Beast’, reserved for the President.
The plan to upgrade the Secret Service’s security vehicles was finalized during a meeting between Secret Service Director Sean Curran and GM executives at the Global Design Center in Warren, Michigan.
The new SUV, developed based on the Chevrolet Suburban platform, sports an exterior design inspired by the Cadillac Escalade. Images revealed during the meeting showcase its bulky silhouette, thick tires, and the American flag proudly displayed on the hood.
Experts speculate that this vehicle could be an upgraded version of the Suburban Shield by GM Defense, enhanced with protective armor, bulletproof glass, and state-of-the-art security features.
In addition to the specialized SUV, GM is also working on the next-generation presidential limousine, affectionately known as “The Beast.”
According to Reuters, GM secured a $14.8 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service in September 2024, with an expected total cost of up to $40.8 million. The vehicle is slated for delivery in 2029.
The current iteration of “The Beast,” introduced in 2018, is built on the heavy-duty GMC TopKick truck platform, weighing in at a massive 9,100 kg and boasting an array of advanced protection features.
