Super Duty is the name given to a special version of heavy-duty pickup trucks, such as Fordโs F-250 and F-350. These trucks will offer superior size and performance compared to the standard F-150 and Ranger.
The American automotive brand has confirmed the launch of the Ranger Super Duty on April 4, but weโll have to wait until 2026 to see this more powerful model at dealerships. So far, Ford has only released a few details about the Ranger Super Duty. This is the first time Ford has expanded the Super Duty lineup beyond the F-Series.
Right after Ford released the first teaser about the upcoming Ranger Super Duty in Australia, a camouflaged prototype of this powerful truck was spotted testing on American soil. The โSuper Dutyโ badge promises a trio of upgrades, including improved towing capability, expanded cargo capacity, and enhanced off-road performance, all wrapped in a tougher and more robust exterior.
The prototype in question features a unique cabin, chassis, and front-end configuration compared to the current Ranger versions. As such, this model will boast prominent extended fenders, a redesigned grille, and a reshaped hood, all contributing to a more rugged and muscular appearance. The wheels are also of a sturdy, heavy-duty type and may feature an eight-bolt fixation, previously only seen on the Ford F-Series.
The wheel size also appears to have been upgraded from 16 inches on the regular Ranger to 18 inches. This is paired with larger 275/70 R18 all-terrain tires, which are 7% bigger than the 255/65 tires typically found on the high-end Ranger.
Ford claims that the Ranger Super Duty will excel in towing capacity, boasting a class-leading 4,500 kg capability. This figure rivals the larger F-150. The vehicleโs Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is also increased to 4,500 kg, and the Gross Combination Mass (GCM) is 8,000 kg, meaning this Ranger is built to haul substantial loads.
Ford has not yet revealed details about the powertrain for the Ranger Super Duty. It is expected that this model will feature upgrades to the drivetrain, suspension, and even the chassis.
