A recently circulated video on social media captured an incredible moment when an SUV seemingly started “driving” by itself on a street in China.

But what left many people astonished was not the moving vehicle, but the fact that a dog was behind the wheel.

Surveillance camera footage showed the SUV, initially parked by the roadside, suddenly rolling forward slowly, moving close to the roadside barrier. It then abruptly veered sharply to the right, knocking down a section of the iron fence before coming to a complete stop. The situation led many to believe it was an accident caused by the driver losing control.

Noticing the unusual event, a man on the sidewalk hastily ran after the vehicle. When the car came to a halt, he opened the door, and to everyone’s surprise and amusement, a dog jumped out. The man initially thought the driver might be experiencing a health issue and rushed to help, only to discover that the “driver” was a dog.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in this unusual incident. The car only caused minor damage to the roadside barrier.

The owner of the car arrived at the scene shortly after. He explained that he had forgotten to turn off the engine and put the gear in park due to his haste in leaving the vehicle. There was a dog left inside the car, and it was likely that the pet accidentally touched the gear shift or other controls, causing the car to start rolling.

While the incident is considered a minor accident and not a serious traffic offense in China, leaving a running vehicle unattended, with children or pets inside, is irresponsible behavior. If the car had caused damage to property or harmed someone, the owner would have faced civil liability and could even be subject to criminal charges in more severe cases.
