The Vietnamese automotive market is witnessing a wave of aggressive incentives across multiple segments, with particular focus on the B-segment sedan, as both manufacturers and dealerships are simultaneously clearing out inventory to stimulate consumption.
According to observations in early April 2025, at least 6 B-segment sedan models are being offered with incentives of up to 50 million VND. Among these, the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent, the two best-selling models in the segment, are being offered with significant discounts.
Specifically, Toyota is offering a 50% subsidy on registration fees for Vios buyers, equivalent to a cash discount of approximately 23-32 million VND. As a result, the on-road price of the Vios now ranges from 435-513 million VND, depending on the province or city.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai Accent (officially priced at 439-569 million VND) is being offered with incentives of up to 50 million VND for vehicles produced in 2024, bringing the selling price down to around 400-520 million VND.
Nissan has also joined the fray by offering a 100% registration fee waiver for the Almera, equivalent to a cash discount of 49-68 million VND, effectively reducing the selling price to 440-501 million VND.
This month, Mitsubishi is also providing a full registration fee subsidy for customers purchasing the Attrage MT, equivalent to a cash discount of 38 million VND. The price of this model after the discount is approximately 342 million VND, the most affordable in the segment. The two CVT and CVT Premium variants are also being offered with a 50% registration fee subsidy, bringing the prices down to 442 million and 465.5 million VND, respectively.
THACO is also offering incentives for the KIA Soluto, ranging from 17-21 million VND depending on the version, and for the Mazda2, with discounts of 6-10 million VND. These discounts bring the prices of the two models down to 397 million and 529 million VND, respectively.
Notably, the Honda City is currently one of the few B-segment sedans without any incentives during this period.
Industry experts attribute the main reason for these incentives to excess inventory from late 2024. This clearance strategy prepares manufacturers and dealerships for the launch of facelifted or new-generation models later this year.
Additionally, consumer trends are shifting towards small SUV/crossover vehicles with similar price ranges and attractive promotional programs, causing traditional sedans to lose their edge.
Furthermore, the group of customers purchasing B-segment sedans for ride-hailing services, which used to be a significant sales driver for this segment, is now gradually transitioning to electric vehicles due to their superior fuel efficiency and lower operating costs. This shift has compelled automakers to enhance incentives for affordable, manual transmission models to attract this customer segment back to the market.
