According to Motor1, Stellantis has just released its 2024 full-year financial results, revealing a significant 57% drop in Maserati’s sales. Deliveries have plummeted from 26,600 units in 2023 to 11,300 in the last year.

To put this into perspective, Ferrari sold 13,752 vehicles to customers globally, marking a 0.7% increase. Another Italian luxury sports car brand, Lamborghini, achieved sales of 10,700 units, almost matching Maserati’s performance.

Prior to his resignation, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares attributed the decline in Maserati’s sales to poor marketing.

In a recent interview, Maserati’s new CEO, Santo Ficili, reiterated this viewpoint. The new leader of the brand with the trident logo predicts that Maserati will continue to operate at a loss this year but expects to turn a profit by 2026.

Back in July 2024, former Stellantis CFO Natalie Knight hinted at the possibility of selling Maserati.

“There may come a point in the future when we consider where is the best place for Maserati,” shared Knight.

However, Stellantis later assured Motor1 that the group has no intention of selling Maserati or merging it with any other Italian luxury car group.

Fast forward to October 2024, just a few weeks before his resignation, former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated that struggling brands within the group would be given a few years to turn themselves around.

While Tavares didn’t name any specific brands, Motor1 believes he was at least alluding to Maserati, among a few other brands owned by Stellantis.

Lancia and DS Automobiles have not been performing well in terms of sales, and Chrysler seems to be doing better since streamlining its product portfolio to focus on the Pacifica/Voyager minivan.

Stellantis is still in the process of finding a new CEO, amidst resurfacing rumors that the group will further streamline the number of brands it owns, currently standing at 14.

According to Automotive News, the successor to Carlos Tavares will be tasked with deciding the fate of each automotive brand within the Stellantis portfolio.

Motor1 predicts that the next two years will be critical for Maserati, and Stellantis will likely continue to exercise patience with the Italian luxury brand.
