China is renowned for its treacherous yet breathtaking roads, making it an ideal destination for avid car enthusiasts seeking exploratory travels.
Recently, a businessman from Haiphong, the owner of the first official Porsche 911 Dakar in Vietnam, embarked on his third expedition to China with his supercar.
Mr. N.H.A and his companion have arrived in Golmud, the second-largest city in Qinghai Province and the third-largest city on the Tibetan Plateau, after Xining and Lhasa. Golmud is situated in the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and is renowned for its lengthy, pristine roads that offer a rich tapestry of natural scenery. The latest leg of their journey spanned an impressive 803 kilometers.
After approximately a year of ownership, the Porsche 911 Dakar has already ventured across borders twice in 2024. On the first occasion, just five days after taking delivery of the 16-billion-VND Porsche 911 Dakar, the Haiphong businessman embarked on a 10,000-kilometer journey from Vietnam to China’s Gobi Desert. The second trip, in mid-June 2024, saw the supercar return to China to conquer a 10,407-kilometer route. With this current expedition, the Porsche 911 Dakar is approaching the impressive milestone of 100,000 kilometers.
This Porsche 911 Dakar played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth trans-Vietnam journey through diverse terrains. Compared to the standard model, this variant features a 50 mm higher ground clearance, enhancing its off-road capabilities. Additionally, it is equipped with a “High Level” mode, which further raises the chassis by 30 mm when needed, making it ideal for off-road conditions. This feature can be activated via a rotary knob on the steering wheel, allowing the car to navigate speed bumps and potholes without scraping the underbody.
The Porsche owned by the Haiphong businessman is one of only 2,500 units produced globally, bearing the serial number 1,904 out of 2,500. Interestingly, this number coincides with the owner’s date of birth.
This 911 Dakar features some personalized touches, including a signature on the door sill, a roll cage, a roof rack, a bonnet-mounted LED light bar, and other off-road accessories.
Under the hood, the Porsche 911 Dakar is powered by a 3.0L flat-six engine that produces 473 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque, coupled with an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission and an AWD system. This setup enables the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h.
As standard, the car is equipped with a four-wheel steering system and a multi-purpose engine mount, reducing the vehicle’s weight by 7.3 kg. Other weight-saving measures include a fixed rear wing and thinner glass panels.
