With a fresh new take on their XC90 SUV, Volvo has now turned its attention to enhancing its premium S90 sedan, introducing a range of design and technological advancements.
First introduced in 2016, the Volvo S90 quickly established itself as a formidable contender in the executive sedan segment. However, nearly a decade later, the vehicle now faces the reality of a declining sedan market, with SUVs taking the lead. Compounded by the stringent tax policies of the US towards imports from China, where the S90 is manufactured, Volvo had to abandon its plans to distribute the S90 in this significant market.
Despite these challenges, the Volvo S90 2025 still has a market. This upgraded version primarily targets Asian markets, with China as its initial focus for the year. Volvo will strategically select other markets after assessing specific demands.
The Volvo S90 2025 has undergone design enhancements to meet the exacting standards of modern consumers. The front of the vehicle boasts sleek LED “Thor’s Hammer” headlights that extend to the new grille. Accompanying these changes are refinements to the roofline, front bumper, wheel arches, and diamond-cut alloy wheels, resulting in a more robust and contemporary appearance. The redesigned taillights further contribute to a refreshed and harmonious overall design.
The S90 2025’s interior has been upgraded not only in design but also in technology. It features a larger 11.2-inch central infotainment screen and over-the-air (OTA) software update capability, offering drivers a convenient and modern experience. Volvo has also improved sound insulation and equipped the vehicle with a standard adaptive suspension system, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable driving experience.
Volvo continues to offer two engine options for the S90 2025: a mild-hybrid 2.0L front-wheel-drive or a plug-in hybrid 2.0L all-wheel-drive variant.
Notably, the plug-in hybrid version can travel up to 80 kilometers on electric power alone, providing flexibility for diverse driving needs. For those seeking an even greater electric range, the all-electric ES90 presents an appealing alternative.
