Following the release of the first images of its all-new electric SUV, the EZ-60, Mazda has revealed more intriguing details about the highly anticipated vehicle, which is set to rival the Tesla Model Y in the Chinese and global markets.
Official images and specifications of the Mazda EZ-60 have been unveiled through data registered with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), showcasing several differences from the brand’s current electric vehicle lineup.
Mazda EZ-60 measures 4,850 x 1,935 x 1,620 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,902 mm. This positions the mid-size electric SUV larger than the Tesla Model Y in most dimensions and comparable in size to the Zeekr 7X, another notable electric SUV from China.
One striking aspect is the EZ-60’s weight, clocking in at 2,590 kg, which surpasses many large pickup trucks such as the Ram 1500.
Mazda EZ-60 is built on the EPA1 modular platform, also shared with the Changan Deepal S07, a product of Mazda’s strategic partner in China.
The design of this mid-size SUV takes inspiration from the Arata concept car unveiled last year. While retaining Mazda’s distinctive DNA, the EZ-60 boasts a significantly more robust and modern appearance. The front of the vehicle stands out with its faux grille, featuring a characteristic style, slender LED daytime running lights, low-set main headlights, and a prominent logo with LED backlighting.
Details such as the elongated hood, black roof, hidden door handles, and large floral-patterned alloy wheels contribute to the EZ-60’s elegant and sporty aesthetic. The rear of the vehicle embraces minimalism with subtle sophistication, showcasing an “L”-shaped taillight assembly seamlessly connected to the embossed “Mazda” lettering.
Additionally, the EZ-60 intelligently integrates aerodynamic elements, including air intakes at the front and a C-pillar designed to channel air, optimizing efficiency and battery cooling.
Depending on the version, the EZ-60 can be equipped with traditional side-view mirrors or digital camera replacements. Mazda emphasizes these technologies to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and offer a more premium user experience.
Although Mazda has not officially released interior images, spy shots of test vehicles suggest that the EZ-60’s cabin will feature a super-wide screen spanning the entire dashboard. This display is divided into three sections: a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, and an entertainment screen for the front passenger.
The Mazda EZ-60 will be offered with two powertrain options. While details about the pure electric version remain undisclosed, the hybrid variant utilizes a 1.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine as a generator to charge a 31.7 kWh battery pack. This powers an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, delivering 255 horsepower.
Although exact figures for the EZ-60 hybrid’s range have not been revealed, based on the Mazda EZ-6, which employs a similar powertrain, we can expect the EZ-60 hybrid to offer up to 160 km of pure electric range and a combined range of approximately 1,300 km when charged by the gasoline engine.
In the Chinese market, the vehicle will retain the name Mazda EZ-60. However, in other international markets, it will be known as the Mazda CX-6e. Mazda is expected to debut this electric SUV globally at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, commencing on April 23.
As Mazda cautiously steps into the era of electrification, the EZ-60 is poised to be a pivotal model, helping the brand reposition itself in the mid-size electric SUV segment. The previous MX-30 fell short of expectations in the US market due to its high price and limited range.
