At the Sealion 6 launch event, BYD also unveiled another electric vehicle called the Sealion 8.
This is actually the Tang EV that caused controversy over its name when it was intended for distribution in Vietnam. Earlier, in mid-November 2024, although there was no official launch, the car was already on sale on a pre-order basis.
In Vietnam, the BYD Sealion 8 is priced at 1.569 billion VND. This is considered a strong competitor in the D-segment SUV/CUV market, competing directly with VinFast VF 8 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
BYD Sealion 8 has dimensions of 4,870 x 1,950 x 1,725 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
In terms of design, the Sealion 8 strongly embodies BYD’s distinctive Dragon Face design language. The front of the car features sleek LED headlights, surrounded by LED daytime running lights. A silver strip connects the two headlights, accentuated by the “BYD” lettering. The front bumper sports a wide trapezoidal air intake, along with ‘C’-shaped air intakes at the corners, giving it a robust and modern appearance.
As for the interior, the BYD Sealion 8 offers a spacious and comfortable 7-seat configuration with three rows of seats. It boasts a modern digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen that can rotate 90 degrees. Other notable features include 50W wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, 31-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.
The BYD Sealion 8 is powered by two electric motors, delivering a combined output of 509 horsepower (241 hp at the front and 268 hp at the rear) and 700 Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive system ensures stable performance on all terrains. According to data from the Vietnam Registry, the car’s energy consumption is stated as 218.9 Wh/km.
With a full charge, the Sealion 8 can travel up to 635 km, according to the CLTC test cycle in China. However, the actual range may vary depending on driving conditions.
The BYD Sealion 8 is imported from China and is the seventh BYD model distributed in Vietnam, following the Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin, Han, M6, and Sealion 6.
