According to Drive, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado outsold the Ford Everest in Australia during February, with more than double the sales of its competitor. The Toyota model currently holds over a quarter of the large SUV market share in the land down under.

Specifically, Australian customers purchased 2,723 Toyota Land Cruiser Prados in February, equivalent to a 26.1% market share of large SUVs priced below USD 80,000.

In the same period, Ford sold 1,297 Everest models, an increase of 148 units compared to February 2024. This performance secured the Ford Everest the second-best-selling position with an 11.6% market share, but it still lags significantly behind the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

After the first two months of the year, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado leads the segment with 5,570 units sold, while the Ford Everest sold 2,886 vehicles. Both models achieved growth of 101.5% and 29.1%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

The best-selling month for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Australia was November 2024, with 3,590 units delivered to customers. This also coincided with the launch of the new generation of the large SUV in the Australian market.

Speaking to Drive, Toyota Australia revealed that customers who place an order for the Prado in March can expect delivery within the next 3-6 months. Last year, this waiting period extended to 7-8 months.

At the launch event, Toyota confirmed that they would deliver 27,000 Prado units to Australian dealerships within the next 12 months. According to Drive, the number of Prado units sold to Australian customers has already reached a cumulative total of 11,847 since its launch in November 2024.

Last year, the Ford Everest sold 26,494 units in Australia. According to the Drive website, customers who order the Ford Everest can typically expect delivery within 60 days.

The transition from the old to the new generation caused a significant drop in Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sales in Australia for 2024, with only 9,802 units sold. In contrast, the new generation of the large SUV needed just four months to surpass the total sales of the entire previous year.

Overall, the new car market in Australia experienced a 6.7% decline in sales last month. Toyota remains the best-selling brand, followed by Mazda, Kia, and Ford.
