According to reports, Yamaha is offering significant discounts of up to 150 million VND on select motorcycle models in the Vietnamese market. This move is seen as a way to clear inventory and boost sales amidst a stagnant motorcycle market.
Yamaha’s discount program includes three voucher values of 60 million, 100 million, and 150 million VND. However, not all models are eligible for these discounts. Popular choices like the XSR700 and MT-03 are notably absent from this promotion.
Interestingly, these vouchers are not widely available at dealerships. They are exclusively offered to existing customers and are valid for a limited time only. As a result, prospective buyers looking to take advantage of the discounts must purchase vouchers from other individuals.
Social media groups have become a bustling marketplace for Yamaha motorcycle vouchers. The resale prices vary depending on the discount amount offered by each voucher.
For instance, a used motorcycle business owner in Ho Chi Minh City is advertising three types of vouchers with the following prices: 5 million VND for a 60 million VND voucher, 15 million VND for a 100 million VND voucher, and 35 million VND for a 150 million VND voucher.
Another individual is selling a 150 million VND discount voucher for 60 million VND, a significant markup. Nonetheless, these vouchers are in high demand and quickly snapped up, as the effective vehicle price is still considerably lower than the market average for this segment.
Industry experts view this voucher discount strategy as Yamaha’s way of clearing inventory in response to lackluster sales in the large-displacement motorcycle segment. In fact, without these discounts, Yamaha’s pricing tends to be higher than its domestic rivals, such as Honda, which maintains a more competitive pricing strategy in this segment.
Additionally, the Vietnamese motorcycle market is facing a decline in demand, prompting brands to find ways to stimulate sales, particularly through indirect discount methods like vouchers.
