Genesis stole the show at the 2025 Seoul Motor Show with two new concept models, the X Gran Coupe and Convertible, based on the G90. But the Hyundai Group’s luxury brand didn’t stop there. At the 2025 New York Auto Show, Genesis once again surprised enthusiasts with an entirely new concept, the X Gran Equator. This futuristic SUV combines bold design with a retro-style interior, marking a daring direction for the Korean brand.

The X Gran Equator is the latest showcase of Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design language. This SUV sits on massive 24-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in rugged off-road tires, providing impressive ground clearance and suggesting formidable off-road capabilities.

The overall shape is distinctive, with a short front end, a long hood, and a narrow windshield. The extended distance from the front axle to the hood evokes memories of classic luxury cars. The absence of a front grille suggests that this concept could be an all-electric vehicle.

True to Genesis’ design signature, the X Gran Equator features dual parallel LED light bars at the front and rear. The front bumper incorporates additional LED lighting for improved night vision, while the rear adopts a minimalist style with a unique split tailgate. The plastic claddings on the wheel arches and bumpers are subtly designed, enhancing the premium feel without compromising elegance.

In contrast to its futuristic exterior, the X Gran Equator’s interior takes a different path. Instead of a conventional central infotainment screen, it features four round displays on the dashboard, inspired by classic analog gauges. These screens are customizable and accompanied by a retro-style, three-circle digital instrument cluster.

The interior also emphasizes mechanical controls. The center console is packed with large, toggle-style switches, and the steering wheel integrates multiple buttons and an oversized shift knob.

The X Gran Equator offers a four-seat layout with swivel front seats. The ceiling features multiple sunroofs, and the storage compartments are designed with convenient modularity. The interior materials are premium, with vibrant colors and cross-stitching exuding a sense of meticulous craftsmanship.

Genesis has not released specific technical details about this concept, so it’s unclear if the X Gran Equator utilizes a unibody or body-on-frame construction. The brand only states that the concept is “designed to perform in harsh conditions while maintaining natural grace.”

Genesis also confirms that the X Gran Equator is not approved for production. However, design elements like the split tailgate and roof rack could find their way into future models. This aligns with Genesis’ strategy to expand into the lifestyle, exploration, and outdoor segments.

It appears that Genesis is gearing up to compete with the likes of the electric Mercedes G-Class or even a potential zero-emissions version of the Land Rover Defender.
