A Ferrari supercar fire on the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo, Japan, has left the car enthusiast community in shock. The Ferrari 458 Spider, a symbol of speed and class, was reduced to ashes just an hour after being delivered to its owner.
The victim, Honkon, a 33-year-old music producer living in Japan, shared his story on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Honkon had saved up for ten years to fulfill his dream of owning a supercar. Unfortunately, before he could fully enjoy his new purchase, the car burst into flames while driving.
“My Ferrari was burnt to a crisp just an hour after I took delivery,” wrote Honkon. “I bet no one in Japan has had such bad luck as me.”
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. According to local media, the fire started while the car was on the expressway, and Honkon was able to pull over and escape unharmed. It took the fire department about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The front of the car was the only area that wasn’t completely destroyed by the fire.
The Tokyo Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. According to Yahoo Japan, there were no signs of collision prior to the incident.
The Ferrari 458 Spider was produced between 2011 and 2015. In 2010, Ferrari recalled over 1,200 458 Italia Coupes due to a glue defect in the wheel wells that could cause fires. However, Honkon’s car was the Spider version, which was produced after the recall and featured a different technical solution.
The incident has sparked concern among Ferrari 458 owners worldwide, as the cause of the fire remains unknown. For Honkon, he hopes that his insurance company will support him, giving him the chance to rekindle his passion for speed, even if it means starting from scratch.
