For this year’s 30th of April holiday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a special gift: a 1:24 scale wooden tank model crafted and gifted by Truong Van Dao, a former student of the Postal and Telecommunications Technology Academy.
Truong Van Dao, a native of Bac Ninh, is renowned for his intricate wooden car models, ranging from supercars and concepts to everyday vehicles. Previously, Dao’s workshop gained international recognition for its movable wooden car models powered by electric motors and even utilizing real car chassis, becoming a special destination for handmade car enthusiasts.
Dao shared that he was invited to attend a creative and digital transformation program at his alma mater, the Postal and Telecommunications Technology Academy, as an outstanding alumnus. The program was graced and initiated by the Prime Minister. Following a suggestion from the Academy’s leadership, Dao collaborated with the school to create a unique gift for the Prime Minister: a model of the Tank 390 that entered the Independence Palace, crafted entirely from wood.
On this occasion, instead of his usual large-scale models, Dao opted for a smaller 1:24 scale for convenience in displaying the model on a desk. The replica depicts a historic image: Tank 390 crashing through the gates of the Independence Palace in 1975.
To complete the product, Dao applied AI in creating a 3D drawing, significantly reducing design time. However, the workload remained immensely pressured, with the team working until 11 pm every day to meet the one-week deadline. Every detail, from the tank’s tracks and body to the intricate patterns on the palace’s gate, was meticulously crafted from wood, demanding a higher level of precision compared to larger models.
Dao expressed that the emotion of directly presenting the model to the Prime Minister was an indescribable happiness, like a recognition of his passionate creative journey.
