The Geely Galaxy Cruiser, an impressive new concept car, made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025, which opened last week. According to Geely, this vehicle is ready for off-road adventures.

China’s largest private car manufacturer seems to be officially entering the booming off-road vehicle market in the country. The Galaxy Cruiser, with its boxy design, is a testament to this, marking a complete departure from Geely’s previous design language.
All the familiar elements of an off-road vehicle are present in the Geely Galaxy Cruiser, from its boxy front end, thick silver front bumper, square wheel arch covers, flat roof, robust roof rack, vertical cabin, to the spare tire mounted on the rear hatch door. This concept car is even equipped with a roof ladder and side-mounted storage boxes, details popularized by the Land Rover Defender.

From the front, the vehicle stands out with its rectangular grille that extends to the sides, incorporating round headlights that Geely describes as “reflecting ancient wisdom.” This is because the headlight cluster, along with the vertically placed taillights, draws inspiration from the Armillary sphere, an ancient astronomical instrument.

The angular design language continues inside the cockpit, where the Galaxy Cruiser features rectangular details reminiscent of BYD’s Fangchengbao line. This is evident in the dashboard, steering wheel buttons and horn. The large infotainment screen is prominently placed, and the central control cluster buttons and drive mode selector dial are designed in a similar style.

The gear selector of the Galaxy Cruiser is designed to resemble a yacht’s throttle, while the passenger side features additional off-road aids such as a compass. However, these features may not make it to the production version of the Galaxy Cruiser as they could potentially interfere with airbag deployment.

Geely states that the Galaxy Cruiser can crab walk like a crab, pivot in place like a tank, and even drive on three wheels. It is likely to use a hydraulic suspension system similar to BYD’s, allowing it to lift a wheel when a tire is punctured.
The Geely Galaxy Cruiser can crab walk and pivot in place like the Yangwang U8.
Moreover, the vehicle can drift without a driver and pass the moose test at speeds of up to 50 mph. Additionally, it can wade through water up to 31 inches deep and float on the surface for a maximum of two hours, reaching speeds of up to 5.3 mph, similar to BYD’s luxury SUV, the Yangwang U8.
Since the Galaxy Cruiser is a futuristic concept car, Geely has not disclosed specific details about its powertrain. However, they mention that it can switch between pure electric, hybrid, and extended-range modes, utilizing artificial intelligence technology. It is predicted to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.
The Geely Galaxy Cruiser is expected to be a PHEV.
Additionally, the Galaxy Cruiser will use Geely’s in-house developed Aegis battery, along with a satellite communication system and G-AES, an automatic obstacle avoidance technology. The system will employ remote satellite sensors and drones to navigate and avoid obstacles while off-roading.
Despite being a concept, the Galaxy Cruiser’s design appears production-ready. Therefore, it is likely to hit showrooms in China soon.
