The luxury MPV market is booming in China, and Great Wall Motor (GWM) is making a strong entry into this segment with its new Wey Gaoshan 9. Essentially, it is an extended version of the large Wey 80 MPV, which is already available in Vietnam. In the Chinese market, the Wey 80 is known by the distinct name, Gaoshan.
The Wey 80 large MPV, now available in Vietnam, has an extended version.
Officially unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the Wey Gaoshan 9 boasts a length of 5,400 mm and a wheelbase of 3,275 mm. Compared to the standard Wey 80, this model is 355 mm longer, while the wheelbase has increased by 190 mm.
The Wey Gaoshan 9 is significantly longer than the Wey 80.
Most of the increased dimensions are in the rear section. This modification allows the Wey Gaoshan 9 to better compete with rivals such as the Lexus LM, Denza D9, and Zeekr 009 Grand.

Interestingly, GWM has not followed the trend of 4-seat configurations favored by competitors like Lexus and Zeekr. Instead, the Wey Gaoshan 9 maintains a 3-row seat layout.

The additional length allows for the inclusion of a pair of business seats in the middle row, transforming the Wey Gaoshan 9 into a 6-seater MPV. Thanks to the expanded space, the vehicle not only provides a comfortable experience for passengers in the last row but also offers a generous luggage compartment with a standard capacity of 315 liters. When the third row is folded down, the cargo capacity can be increased to 1,975 liters.

Meanwhile, the luxurious second-row seats come equipped with electric adjustments, reclining backrests, and leg rests that can be activated with a single button, providing optimal relaxation for passengers. Additionally, features such as seat heating, cooling, and massage functions, a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen with gesture control, a folding table, and a cool box are included. Other notable features include voice control for all six seats, a 23-speaker audio system with a 2,440-watt output, and six microphones for karaoke.

In the cockpit, the vehicle features a central touchscreen and a 15.6-inch entertainment screen for front passengers. Both screens run on the latest Coffee OS 3 operating system, support AI generation, and utilize the modern Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. These screens offer a 91-degree viewing angle, enhanced by a 22.4-degree downward tilt and a 56.3-degree horizontal viewing angle, optimizing both aesthetics and functionality.
