The Honda CR-V is the 5th best-selling car in the US market in 2024. This compact SUV achieved this feat without an off-road version. However, this didn’t stop Honda from introducing a new rugged-style version of the CR-V for the US market.
Specifically, the 2026 Honda CR-V has been launched with a new off-road-oriented trim called the TrailSport. This is the second Honda model in the US to receive the TrailSport treatment, after the Passport.
With the 2026 CR-V TrailSport, the off-road trim is exclusively offered with the hybrid powertrain. This marks the first time the TrailSport trim has been paired with a gasoline-electric hybrid system, and it certainly won’t be the last. This is because about 30% of Honda’s sales in the US come from hybrid models.
On the outside, the 2026 CR-V TrailSport features a number of design elements that give it a more rugged appearance. Specifically, it sports front and rear bumpers with skid plate-like styling. It also features orange logo accents and glossy black trim on the door handles, window trim, and rear spoiler. The familiar Ash Green Metallic paint, previously seen on the Honda Passport, is also offered on the new CR-V.

Additionally, the CR-V TrailSport rides on 18-inch Shark Gray wheels with tucked-in valves to prevent damage from rocks or branches when traversing rough terrain. It is also fitted with off-road-oriented Continental CrossContact ATR tires.

The “TrailSport” logo in orange has been added to both the grille and the tailgate.
However, unlike the Passport TrailSport, the CR-V TrailSport does not benefit from suspension tweaks or underbody protection. This indicates that it is more of a style-oriented trim rather than a true off-road-capable vehicle.
In reality, the Honda CR-V TrailSport 2026 is just a style-oriented trim.
Inside, the TrailSport branding is featured on the headrests, along with rubber floor mats and an amber ambient lighting system that illuminates the footwells, overhead console, and cupholders.

Exclusive features of the TrailSport trim include a heated steering wheel and front seats, a power tailgate, a sunroof, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, the Honda CR-V TrailSport 2026 is powered by the same hybrid powertrain as the standard model, combining a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors for a total output of 204 horsepower.

One commendable upgrade across the entire 2026 CR-V lineup, including the TrailSport, is the standard 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, up from the previous 7-inch unit. Wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless charging, are now standard features.

The 2026 Honda CR-V, including the TrailSport trim, will arrive at US dealerships in the spring of 2026. Pricing details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
