The Mazda EZ-6 is a mid-size sedan that was first introduced in the Chinese market in April 2024. Over a year later, a new variant called the Sports Edition has been added to the lineup. True to its name, this version targets young Chinese customers.

The Mazda EZ-6 Sports Edition makes its debut, targeting younger buyers.

The EZ-6 Sports Edition is a collaborative effort between Mazda teams in Japan, China, and Europe. It combines distinctive design elements with two electrification engine options.

Compared to the standard model, the Sports Edition stands out with black exterior accents and red brake calipers, reminiscent of sports cars. The remaining exterior features remain unchanged from the standard EZ-6.

Up front, the EZ-6 Sports Edition features Mazda’s signature grille and a two-tier headlight design, with the main lamps positioned below the LED daytime running lights. The front lighting system is dubbed “Wings of Light” and can optionally include an illuminated Mazda logo.

The overall design of the Mazda EZ-6 Sports Edition remains consistent with the standard model.

Inside, the Sports Edition features Alcantara-trimmed upholstery in black with contrasting red and black stitching. Dark accents are also found on the center console and air vents. The interior design focuses on visual differentiation while retaining the standard model’s structure.

The seats are wrapped in leather and Alcantara for a sporty feel.

Standard equipment includes a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, an AR HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display) with a 50-inch display area, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system. The cabin also features 64-color ambient lighting and front seats with deep recline.

The Mazda EZ-6 Sports Edition offers a host of convenient features.

Similar to the standard EZ-6, the Sports Edition is based on a platform developed by Changan, a Chinese automaker. This is not surprising given that the vehicle is a product of the Changan-Mazda joint venture. The car’s dimensions stand at 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,895 mm.

The Sports Edition is likely to retain the same two engine options as the standard model. The first is a range-extender hybrid with a gasoline engine for extended range. This setup includes a 1.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 160 kW (217 hp) electric motor at the rear. With a full tank and charged battery, the car offers a combined range of 1,301 km (808 miles) based on the CLTC standard. Fuel consumption is rated at 3.6 liters per 100 km.

The second option is a more powerful 190 kW (258 hp) electric motor, offering a range of 480 to 600 km (298 to 373 miles) based on the CLTC standard, depending on the battery capacity. A DC fast charger can recharge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes.

On the safety front, the EZ-6 Sports Edition is equipped with nine airbags, including a center airbag. This has helped the car achieve impressive crash safety standards in the European market.

Pricing for the EZ-6 Sports Edition has not yet been announced. In markets outside China, the EZ-6 is known as the Mazda 6e.

Additionally, the Changan-Mazda joint venture has recently partnered with CATL to develop future vehicles based on the CIIC (Cell to Chassis) platform. This structure separates the upper body and lower frame, improving efficiency and flexibility in the development of future electric vehicles.
