Mid-size SUV Sales Table for April 2025 (units: vehicles)
Ford Everest: 1,090 units sold
In April 2025, Ford sold 1,090 units of the Everest to Vietnamese consumers, equivalent to a 1.4% growth rate. Despite the modest increase, the Ford Everest maintains its position as the “king” of the mid-size SUV segment. Additionally, this model ranked among the top 10 best-selling automobiles in Vietnam for April 2025.
Ford Everest
It’s no surprise that the Ford Everest is popular in the Vietnamese market. This model offers a stylish, eye-catching, and masculine design, along with a full range of convenience and safety features.
The Ford Everest currently has seven versions, with prices ranging from VND 1.099 billion to VND 1.545 billion. For this price, customers will own a spacious SUV with two diesel engine options, both featuring a 2.0L displacement.
The first is a single-turbo engine with a maximum output of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 405 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The corresponding figures for the twin-turbo engine are 210 horsepower and 500 Nm. The twin-turbo engine is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is exclusive to the high-end versions.
Toyota Fortuner: 267 units sold
The second-best-selling model in the mid-size SUV segment for April 2025 was not the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Mazda CX-8, as in previous months. April witnessed the rise of the Toyota Fortuner, with sales increasing by 10.3% to 267 units, securing its position as the runner-up in the segment. However, compared to the Ford Everest, the Toyota Fortuner lags significantly.
Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner is currently priced between VND 1.055 billion and VND 1.35 billion in Vietnam. Its price is not much different from its competitors, and its reputable brand ensures a stable customer base. Unfortunately, the Toyota Fortuner hasn’t received significant design or equipment upgrades in a while, resulting in stagnant sales figures.
In its most recent upgrade, the vehicle was equipped with a 9-inch central touchscreen, supporting wireless connectivity with smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Toyota Fortuner offers three engine options: a 2.4L diesel, a 2.8L diesel, and a 2.7L gasoline engine. The respective performance figures for these engines are 147 horsepower/400 Nm, 201 horsepower/500 Nm, and 164 horsepower/245 Nm. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or 4WD.
Mazda CX-8: 182 units sold
The third-best-selling model in the mid-size SUV segment is the Mazda CX-8, with sales of 182 units, representing a 23.8% decrease.
Mazda CX-8
The Mazda CX-8 currently offers the most reasonable price in the mid-size SUV segment, ranging from VND 969 million to VND 1.149 billion. Additionally, it boasts eye-catching design, diverse convenience features, and comprehensive safety equipment. However, its sales performance is limited by its resemblance to the CX-5 model.
In 2024, the Mazda CX-8 introduced a new version with upgraded design and equipment. The most notable enhancements included Chroma Brown Nappa leather seats, tire pressure sensors, and a driving support system for highways and traffic jams.
The power source for this model is a 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 252 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5 Luxury and 2.5 Premium versions feature front-wheel drive (FWD), while the 2.5 Signature AWD is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system.
Hyundai Santa Fe: 129 units sold
April 2025 was not a successful month for the Hyundai Santa Fe, with sales dropping by 68.3% to 129 units. This model experienced the most significant decline in sales within the mid-size SUV segment.
Hyundai Santa Fe
The Hyundai Santa Fe debuted its new generation in Vietnam in 2024, offering five versions priced between VND 1.069 billion and VND 1.365 billion. The new generation features a unique yet controversial design, along with a spacious interior and comprehensive equipment.
Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe introduces two new gasoline engines. The first is a Smartstream 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, generating 194 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or the HTRAC all-wheel-drive system.
The second engine is a Smartstream 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder unit, producing 281 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted through an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and the HTRAC all-wheel-drive system.
Kia Sorento: 49 units sold
The Kia Sorento continues to rank low in the mid-size SUV segment in terms of sales. In the past month, only 49 units were sold, representing a 15.5% decrease.
Kia Sorento
This May, Kia dealers are offering significant discounts on the Sorento to clear inventory of 2023 and 2024 models. As a result, the standard 2.2D Luxury version is advertised at just VND 899 million. For the 2025 versions of the 2.2D Signature and 2.2D Premium, the discounts are VND 55 million and VND 82 million, respectively. These moves are likely part of a strategy to make way for the new Kia Sorento model that is soon to be launched in Vietnam.
The Kia Sorento currently has the most versions and the highest prices in the mid-size SUV segment. It offers nine versions, with prices ranging from VND 954 million to VND 1.499 billion.
Even the Sorento’s engine options are the most diverse in the segment. The first is the Smartstream 2.5 MPI gasoline engine, delivering 177 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine produces 198 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque and is coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Thirdly, there’s the hybrid powertrain, featuring a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 178 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque. This engine is combined with an electric motor that produces 60 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Finally, the plug-in hybrid system consists of a 1.6L gasoline engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, similar to the previous setup. However, the electric motor in this configuration delivers 90 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque.
Isuzu mu-X: 13 units sold
In April 2025, only 13 Vietnamese customers chose the Isuzu mu-X as their new companion, representing a 48% decrease. With these results, the mu-X remains at the lower end of the segment and is among the 10 worst-selling automobiles in Vietnam.
Isuzu mu-X
The Isuzu mu-X is quite affordable within the segment, with prices ranging from VND 911 million to VND 1.25 billion. Unfortunately, its design is rather niche, and other factors, such as the brand’s association with trucks and ineffective advertising campaigns, have impacted its sales performance.
The “heart” of the Isuzu mu-X is a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. In the highest-end version, this engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system. The other versions feature rear-wheel drive.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: 0 units sold
At the bottom of the mid-size SUV segment for April 2025 is the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. In fact, this model did not generate any sales. It appears that dealers have cleared their inventory and are preparing for the new version of the Pajero Sport.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is available in two versions in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 1.13 billion to VND 1.365 billion. The high price, coupled with unremarkable design and equipment, contributes to its modest sales performance.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is equipped with a 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine, delivering 178 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The vehicle offers two drive types: 1-wheel drive and 4WD, with a rear differential lock.
