On May 17, 2025, BYD unveiled its newest all-electric sedan, the e7. In the Chinese market, this vehicle is offered in three variants, with prices ranging from 103,800 to 115,800 Chinese yuan, which is approximately $15,000 to $17,000.
The BYD e7 is now on sale, starting at just over $15,000.
The e7 joins the brand’s affordable e-series electric vehicle range, targeting young buyers and those seeking a taxi solution. Previously, the e-series only included the BYD e2.
Positioned in the mid-size sedan segment, the e7 boasts generous dimensions with a length of 4,780 mm, a width of 1,900 mm, a height of 1,515 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. Moreover, with a curb weight ranging from 1,499 to 1,566 kg, it is relatively lightweight.

In terms of design, the e7 takes inspiration from the premium Denza Z9 electric vehicle. BYD describes the front end as creating a “smiling” effect, featuring aerodynamic styling with sharp headlights, a shark-like nose, and a small, trapezoidal grille. The BYD logo is prominently positioned on the hood, accented by distinctive character lines.

At the rear, the e7 displays a multi-tiered design with a duck-tail spoiler, sleek taillights that stretch across the width of the vehicle, and additional lights positioned below. The “e7” logo is subtly placed in the lower right corner.

Unlike many electric vehicles on the market, the e7 retains conventional door handles instead of flush-mounted ones, indicative of its entry-level positioning. It also features stylish 16-inch black alloy wheels.
Given its substantial size, the BYD e7 offers a spacious two-row cabin. Despite its affordable price point, the e7 impresses with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster with a 5-inch LCD screen, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. The vehicle runs on BYD’s in-house DiLink 100 operating system.

The center console of the e7 is designed with two levels: the lower level accommodates cup holders and additional storage compartments, while the upper level houses physical buttons and a dedicated space for a mobile phone.

Other notable interior features include black faux-leather upholstery, a column-mounted gear selector, a panoramic sunroof, a spacious 528-liter trunk, and remote control functionality for the air conditioning and door locking systems.

The rear seat of the e7 offers ample legroom and a central headrest, although it lacks a center armrest. Rear passengers benefit from a USB port, rear air vents, LED reading lights, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Overall, the rear accommodations provide a comfortable experience, making it well-suited for taxi operations.
Under the hood, the BYD e7 is powered by a TZ180XSJ permanent magnet synchronous motor positioned at the front, delivering a maximum output of 100 kW (approximately 134 hp). This motor enables the vehicle to reach a top speed of 150 km/h. The motor is paired with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery available in two capacities: 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh. These batteries offer impressive ranges of 450 km and 520 km, respectively, on the CLTC cycle. Fast DC charging for these batteries takes just 0.47 hours and 0.43 hours, respectively.

It remains to be seen whether BYD plans to offer the e7 in markets outside of China.
