Raul Torras Martinez, a seasoned racer, met with a tragic end during the final lap of the Supertwin race at the 2023 Isle of Man TT. While details of the accident are yet to be released, it is known that Martinez encountered difficulties between mile markers 16 and 17.

The 46-year-old Spaniard held the record for being the fastest Spanish rider to complete a lap at the Isle of Man TT, with an impressive average speed of over 201 km/h. Martinez had been a regular at the Isle of Man TT since 2017, participating in a total of 21 races and earning 18 medals during his career at this notoriously dangerous race course. Prior to his unfortunate accident, he was racing for the Toll Racing team.

Martinez’s passing marks the 267th fatality at the Isle of Man TT since its inception in 1907. Last year alone, six riders lost their lives, including the father-son duo of Roger and Bradley Stockton. The Isle of Man TT was last canceled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike MotoGP, this race is held on the winding roads of the Isle of Man, adding to the inherent dangers with sheer drop-offs just a misstep away.
