The Toyota RAV4 is the brand’s best-selling crossover globally, so it’s no surprise that the Japanese automaker approached the design of this C-segment SUV’s new generation with caution.
Unfortunately, the vehicles introduced at the launch event were prototypes, and detailed specifications have yet to be released. Official information is expected to be released during the 2025 fiscal year, which runs from March 2025 to March 2026.

The sixth generation of the Toyota RAV4 conveys the message, “Life is an Adventure,” with the goal that “everyone can enjoy an active life with this vehicle.” To achieve this, the SUV is equipped with a new-generation hybrid system, a design befitting the times, and the Arene platform, which plays a pivotal role in enhancing utility and intelligence.
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 retains the previous generation’s GA-K platform but has been improved for better torsional rigidity and a more refined suspension setup. Additionally, Toyota employs high-damping adhesive agents on the vehicle’s floor, resulting in a smoother ride and more precise cornering for the new RAV4.
The dimensions of the 2026 Toyota RAV4 remain almost unchanged to cater to the needs of its target market. The vehicle’s length, width, and height are 4,600 mm, 1,855 mm, and 1,680 mm, respectively, which is only 5 mm lower than its predecessor.
The vehicle’s design emphasizes three key aspects: “Big Foot” (large tires), “Lift-up” (off-road capability), and “Utility” (a practical cargo area). Simultaneously, it offers three distinct design styles: Core, Adventure, and GR Sport, to cater to diverse consumer preferences.
The Core style RAV4 features a new “hammerhead shark” front design, similar to recent Toyota models like the Crown and Prius. The grille and front bumper are seamlessly integrated, creating a sense of strength and modernity.

In contrast, the RAV4 GR Sport is a sporty variant, crafted with expertise gained from Toyota’s racing division. This is the seventh GR Sport model in the Japanese market, following the Corolla Cross, Aqua, and Land Cruiser. It features unique front and rear bumpers, as well as a front spoiler. The suspension has been raised by 20 mm, and the shocks have been tuned. Additional enhancements include a customized electric power steering system, a rear brace, and special lightweight alloy wheels.

The Toyota RAV4 Adventure, on the other hand, exudes a camping-oriented aesthetic. This version is also known as the Woodland in the US market. It boasts larger tires, distinctive fender flares, and a bold vertical grille, conveying a sense of robustness and assurance.

In the newly launched sixth generation of the Toyota RAV4, the automaker has discontinued the conventional gasoline engine option. Instead, the SUV is offered with hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains featuring entirely new propulsion systems.
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Offers Two Hybrid Powertrain Choices.
Under the hood of the 2026 Toyota RAV4 for the Japanese market lies a choice of two hybrid systems: a conventional hybrid (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Based on the information disclosed at the launch event, the vehicle is expected to utilize a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine, similar to its predecessor. However, the powertrain, electric control units, and batteries have been upgraded, resulting in increased motor output and delivering a smoother acceleration feel and startup.
The PHEV variant features an integrated DC-DC converter, reducing its height by 15% and weight by 18%. Simultaneously, power has been boosted by 12%, enhancing efficiency and reducing the overall size. The front drive motor has also been upgraded, increasing output by approximately 12%. While the lithium-ion battery remains unchanged, its capacity has been increased by 30%. The all-electric range is expected to increase from 95 km to 150 km. The vehicle also supports fast charging and V2H (vehicle-to-home power supply). When using a fast charger with a capacity of over 50 kW (maximum 125A), charging the battery to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes.
Lastly, the SUV is equipped with the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense system, which includes a function to stop the vehicle on the roadside when unusual behavior is detected in the driver (under specific conditions).
