Despite General Motors (GM) officially discontinuing sales of the Cadillac XT4 in the US market since January, this luxury compact SUV is still going strong in China. In fact, the car has just received an upgraded version in the billion-people market. Notably, the price of this car is extremely affordable compared to the US market.

Specifically, in the Chinese market, the Cadillac XT4 starts at just RMB 159,900, equivalent to around USD 22,200 or VND 559 million. In contrast, in the US, the XT4 starts at nearly double the price, from USD 40,795. In other words, Chinese consumers can buy a Cadillac XT4 for the price of a mainstream compact SUV like the Nissan Kicks.

The luxury Cadillac XT4 SUV debuts a new version at a price comparable to the Nissan Kicks.

To put this into perspective, Chevrolet Trax 2025, currently the smallest SUV that GM offers in the US market, starts at USD 20,500. Meanwhile, the Nissan Kicks has a starting price of USD 21,520. This implies that American consumers have limited choices when it comes to affordable SUVs, while in China, they can purchase a luxury vehicle at a similar price point.

Even the highest trim level of the 2025 Cadillac XT4 in the Chinese market is reasonably priced at RMB 189,900 (approximately USD 26,300 or VND 664 million). In contrast, the top-of-the-line XT4 Sport AWD in the US market starts at USD 45,290.

This price discrepancy can be partly attributed to the engines offered. The standard model for the Chinese market features a mild hybrid 48V powertrain with a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine, producing 211 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque.

The higher-end version of this luxury SUV employs a mild hybrid 48V system with a turbocharged 2.0L gasoline engine, generating 237 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Cadillac XT4 in the Chinese market offers two engine options.

In terms of equipment, the Chinese market version is almost identical to its US counterpart. It boasts optional 20-inch wheels, a 33-inch ultra-wide curved screen with 9K resolution encompassing a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system. Additionally, the interior features heated, cooled, and massaging seats, a heated steering wheel, and a premium AKG sound system with active noise cancellation.

Overall, Chinese consumers are enjoying a privilege that American customers can only dream of: purchasing a Cadillac XT4, positioned as a luxury SUV, at a price comparable to that of a mainstream compact SUV. This clearly illustrates the growing price disparity between vehicles in China and the US, as well as the intensifying competition in the world’s largest automotive market.
