A surprising entry in TMT Motors’ recent industrial design registration has sparked speculation about plans to launch a mini electric car with a Vietnamese brand.
Images of this industrial design have been circulating on social media, attracting significant attention from the community. According to the shared images, TMT Motors’ new model has two side doors and a compact design for two people, a distinct difference from the previously mentioned Baojun E100. Notably, the design details of the front and rear light clusters indicate that this is not the expected E100 version.
Notably, the TMT logo is prominently featured in the new design, suggesting that this may be the first electric car model distributed or even assembled in Vietnam by the company. TMT Motors has not yet provided any official response to this information.
Previously, in late 2024, TMT announced plans to distribute the Baojun E100, a microcar from the GM-SAIC-Wuling joint venture, without confirming the launch date. With the introduction of a differently designed model, TMT appears to be developing a new product to gain more brand and market strategy autonomy.
If the new electric car is priced similarly to the Baojun E100, at around VND 150 million (including the battery), it will be the most affordable car in Vietnam. This price is comparable to premium scooters such as the Honda SH 350i (VND 152.7 million) or the Vespa GTV (VND 159.8 million).
The official launch timeline for the new model is unclear, but with the industrial design registration and indications of brand localization, TMT Motors is likely preparing a strategic move into the mini electric car segment in Vietnam.
