BMW is embarking on a comprehensive reinvention of its model range, introducing an entirely new design language dubbed ‘Neue Klasse’ over the next four years.

This marks one of BMW’s most significant transformations in the era of electrification.

As shared by Adrian van Hooydonk, Group Design Director at BMW, the Neue Klasse style will not be exclusive to electric vehicles but will be present across all BMW models, including those with traditional combustion engines.

Despite being a relatively new generation introduced in 2023, the BMW 5 Series sedan will be the first model to receive a facelift adhering to the Neue Klasse language, while still utilizing the current CLAR architecture. Subsequently, other models such as the X5, 2 Series, X2, 7 Series, and X7 will undergo design adjustments in the coming years.

Initially, Neue Klasse was envisioned by BMW as a design language exclusive to its future electric vehicles. However, in late 2024, the company officially confirmed that it would extend this style to vehicles with traditional combustion engines as well. The Neue Klasse design is expected to create a more distinct identity, featuring a streamlined grille and simplified, modern aesthetics inspired by the Neue Klasse Sedan and Neue Klasse X Crossover concepts.

While all future BMW models will bear the imprint of the Neue Klasse language, the brand representative assured that each product would undergo unique refinements to maintain distinct segment identities, ranging from sports to luxury and utility vehicles.

Bernd Körber, BMW’s Product Director, confirmed that this design transition plan would be completed within three and a half years. This initiative is part of BMW’s overarching strategy to reshape its product portfolio, gearing up for a new era in the global automotive industry, which is rapidly shifting towards electrification and digitalization.
