Isuzu has unveiled its new electric pickup truck, the D-Max EV, marking a strategic move towards electrifying its mid-size commercial vehicle segment.

The D-Max EV retains the same design as its current diesel-powered counterparts, with subtle tweaks to distinguish the electric variant.

Unlike the concept model unveiled in 2024, which featured a closed grille, the production version retains the traditional open grille design. Key changes include EV badging, a charging port located where the fuel filler used to be, and the absence of an exhaust pipe.

The vehicle is painted in a distinctive Norwegian Blue, complemented by 18-inch dark alloy wheels and black trim accents. The D-Max EV will be offered in two body styles: Extended Cab and Double Cab, both positioned in the premium segment.

Isuzu has equipped the D-Max EV with a four-wheel-drive system and twin electric motors, delivering a combined output of 188 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque. Compared to its diesel sibling, the electric truck offers 26.8 more horsepower but slightly less torque, reduced by 35 Nm.

D-Max EV can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 10.1 seconds and reach a top speed of over 129 km/h. It retains the Rough Terrain Mode, a signature feature of the D-Max diesel range.

One of the standout features of the D-Max EV is its impressive payload and towing capacity, matching those of its diesel-powered rivals. It can carry over 1,000 kg and tow up to 3.5 tons. The vehicle also maintains its off-road capabilities with a ground clearance of 210 mm and a water-wading depth of 600 mm.

The D-Max EV‘s energy source is a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering an estimated range of 263 km on the WLTP cycle. It supports 50 kW DC fast charging, enabling a quick one-hour charge from 20% to 80%.

Structurally, the D-Max EV is based on the same platform as its internal combustion predecessor but has been modified to accommodate the electric powertrain. The suspension has been upgraded to a De-Dion system, enhancing ride comfort on urban and inter-city roads.

Isuzu will initially open pre-orders for the D-Max EV in the UK in the second half of 2025, with the first deliveries expected in March 2026. Following the UK launch, the electric pickup will be introduced in other European markets.

With competitors such as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger still in the testing phase for their electric variants, the D-Max EV is a step ahead with a fully commercialized product. Its practical design, robust performance, and competitive specifications pave the way for a new era of electric pickups in Europe.
