The Nissan Ariya, an electric SUV, has fallen short of sales expectations. Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf has long been outdated, and its successor is still in development. Nissan needs a fresh offering in the electric vehicle market, and the Nissan N7 is poised to be that breath of fresh air.

Introduced in April 2025 and quickly made available for purchase, the Nissan N7 is off to a promising start. According to Nissan, as of May 31, they have received 17,215 orders for the vehicle in China. Notably, 70% of these orders came from first-time Nissan buyers.

The Nissan N7 made its debut at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.

This is an impressive feat, considering that new electric vehicles in China don’t usually attain such high early sales figures. For context, the Mazda EZ-60 reportedly attracted 20,000 pre-orders within a few weeks.

Nissan has taken to social media to announce that the N7 is currently the best-selling all-electric vehicle among joint ventures in the Chinese market. It also ranks second in the medium and large electric vehicle segment with a price below CNY 200,000 (approximately $30,000).

Encouraged by the positive response in China, Nissan has confirmed plans to introduce the N7 to global markets. However, they have not disclosed a timeline for the rollout or specified which markets will receive the vehicle. It is likely to be sold in Europe, especially considering that Mazda also intends to bring its China-produced electric vehicles, the EZ-6 and EZ-60, to the European market.

Interestingly, Nissan has recently registered the “Primera” trademark in several markets, including Malaysia. This has sparked rumors that the Nissan N7 will be sold outside of China under the Primera name.

The Nissan Primera could make a comeback, competing in the same segment as the Toyota Camry.

While the N7 is a notable win for Nissan, it’s important to note that they didn’t develop the vehicle entirely in-house. Instead, the N7 is based on a Chinese vehicle called the Dongfeng eĎ€ 007. However, some distinctive features of the Dongfeng eĎ€ 007, such as its Lamborghini-style scissor doors, are absent on the Nissan N7. Nonetheless, most users are unlikely to be concerned about the absence of scissor doors.

The N7 showcases a unique design language for Nissan. Its exterior stands out from the rest of the Nissan lineup, featuring a sleek LED daytime running light signature and intricate headlight design. The interior is also more modern than any other Nissan, including the Ariya, boasting a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a minimalist aesthetic.

In the Chinese market, the standard Nissan N7 is equipped with a 215-horsepower electric motor and a 58 kWh battery, offering a maximum range of up to 317 miles on a single charge.

The higher-end versions feature the same powertrain, while two additional variants are offered with a larger 73 kWh battery, increasing the range to 394 miles.

The Nissan N7 is priced between CNY 119,900 and CNY 149,900 (approximately $18,000 to $22,500), making it a competitively priced option in the electric vehicle market.
